MORTIIS - Soul in a Hole DVD - Earache Records

Although Mortiis' music combines elements of goth, doom, and metal, I have put it in our Industrial segment because 1) we need more shit here and 2) the precise, pulsating techno beats are the music's primary drivers. Recorded live in London, the energetic yet dramatic set is interspersed with brief bits of silliness from the band and crew. Early in the set he loses one of his Spock ears, to which he quips "I'll sacrifice an ear here", and he later rips the other off and tosses it to the crowd. Actually Mortiis is a fairly handsome Norwegian dude, so why he prefers to appear onstage made up like a cross between a troll and Nosferatu I'm not really sure, and although I thought he shaved his head, he sports a full set of dreadlocks that put Rob Zombie to shame. So does the music, which leaves tunes like "Dragula" choking on dust. Also included are four videos, a behind-the-scenes "making of" clip for "The Grudge" (which is the set's most lethal tune), and an interview segment.
